Meet Dr. Espinoza
Paul Espinoza, MD, RVT, RPhS, is a native of Charleston, South Carolina, and the first of four children of immigrant parents from Costa Rica and Colombia.
During his career as a family medicine practitioner, Dr. Espinoza was introduced to and subsequently pursued the relevant training in the then new field of phlebology, or venous disorders and disease. His curiosity and growing passion for this field of medicine, along with his experience in family medicine positioned him to appreciate the interconnectedness between venous health and overall health. This broader perspective also helps him develop treatment plans that are tailored to his patients’ specific needs, going beyond the treatment of symptoms.
Dr. Espinoza has practiced phlebology since 2005 and was one of the first vein care specialists in South Carolina. His passion for this unique and relatively new field steered him into becoming a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and a Registered Phlebology Sonographer (RPhS). He’s one of only a handful of phlebologists in South Carolina with this extensive training in ultrasonography and one of a few vein care specialists who can use ultrasound technology to diagnose and treat vein disorders and vein-related symptoms.
Dr. Espinoza is a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine. He is a member of the American Venous & Lymphatic Society, the South Carolina Medical Association, and the Lexington Medical Association. He is also a member of the board of the Medical Insurance Trustees of the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Espinoza’s continued passion for vein health finds him in attendance at several venous and lymphatic conferences each year which keeps him abreast with the latest studies and technological advancements in the field.
Dr. Espinoza and his wife, Kathy-Ann, live in Lexington, South Carolina, and have five children. Together, they place God first in their lives and use his gift of being a physician as one way of doing God’s will. Dr. Espinoza spends his spare time practicing martial arts and enjoys carpentry, gardening, auto racing and spending time with his family.
