Vein Disease
Do you just have unsightly veins in your legs, or is it something more serious?
It’s hard to know if you have vein disease because many conditions have no obvious symptoms or only mild symptoms. At Espinoza Vein Institute, we look at your overall health and use advanced technology to determine if you have vein disease.
Types of Vein Disease and Symptoms
Vein Disease Risk Factors
- Family history of vein disease
- Hormonal birth control or hormone replacement therapy
- Inactivity
- Weakened veins due to aging, pregnancy or tumors
Vein diseases we treat include:
Spider Veins
Spider veins are small, damaged blood vessels that are visible on the surface of your skin. They are usually blue, red or purple and most often appear on the legs. You may experience some burning, itching or mild discomfort because of spider veins. Getting rid of spider veins can help you feel better about your legs and their appearance.
Varicose Veins
Varicose veins are twisted, enlarged veins on the leg or foot. They’re easy to see and appear blue or green through the skin. Symptoms can include:
- Aching, uncomfortable or painful legs
- Swollen ankles or feet
- Stinging or aching during prolonged sitting or standing
- Skin changes or discolorations
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)
With this condition, blood can pool in the legs, causing swelling, pressure and discoloration of the skin. Symptoms include:
- Swelling in the legs, ankles and feet
- Inflamed, dry or itchy skin
- Skin color changes
- Ulcers on the lower leg or ankles
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
This type of blood clot occurs in veins deep inside your legs and arms. If the clot breaks off, it can cause a life-threatening condition. Many people don’t experience any signs of a DVT, but symptoms may include:
- Sudden ache or pain deep in leg muscles
- Swollen or tender leg
- Warm or reddish skin
